    Looking for directions ?

    Times we wish there was a big finger like this pointing the way. But God promises in HIS Word for HIS people. "I will instruct you & teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you" - Psalm 32:8

    With a tender voice, HE says, "Call to ME & I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know" - Jeremiah 33:3. Please take time to meditate on the words, "great & unsearchable things".

    Looking for direction ? Look to JESUS, HE is our promised Messiah, HE is our guide to those great unsearchable things. HE is calling you, HE never forsakes those who seek HIM(Psalm 9:10).

    Why Pray ?

    If God has already planned to send rain, then why pray for it?

    Or if God has chosen to bring you to heaven, then why fight so hard against temptation or pursue holiness?

    Jonathan Edwards gives his answer to this.

    God decrees all things harmoniously and in excellent order; one decree harmonizes with another, and there is such a relation between all the decrees as makes the most excellent order. Thus God decrees rain in drought because he decrees the earnest prayers of his people; or thus, he decrees the prayers of his people because he decrees rain.

    But this is what we [mean]: when God decrees to give the blessing of rain, he decrees the prayers of his people; and when he decrees the prayers of his people, he very commonly decrees rain; and thereby there is an harmony between these two decrees, of rain and the prayers of God's people.

    Thus also,

    * when he decrees diligence and hard working, he decrees riches and prosperity;
    * when he decrees seeking wisdom, he often decrees success;
    * when he decrees persistence and enduring hardship to be blameless, then often he decrees the obtaining of the kingdom of heaven;
    * when he decrees the preaching of the gospel, then he decrees the bringing home of souls to Christ;
    * when he decrees keeping the mind clean, then he decrees learning;
    * when he decrees summer season, then he decrees the growing of plants.

    Thus, when he decrees conformity to his Son, he decrees calling; and when he decrees calling, he decrees justification; and when he decrees justification, he decrees everlasting glory.

    God says in Hosea 5:15 - that HE will come to HIS people, if the people repent and turn to HIM earnestly. To get HIS people into order, God brings affliction on HIS people so that they will seek HIM earnestly.

    So we read in Amos 4, God gives empty stomachs, lack of bread, withheld rain, dried up fields, no water, struck down gardens & vineyards, sent plagues, used locust to destroy figs and olive trees, killed young men, filled the nostrils with stench, overthrow some of you(notice not all of you). Why did the Lord do all this - so that you will return to God. But still the people did not return to the Lord.

    If God, in His grace, finds no other means of making us honor Him among men, He will cast us into the deep; if we fail to honor Him on the pinnacle of riches, He will bring us into the valley of poverty. Yet do not faint, when you are rebuked in this fashion; recognize the loving hand that chastens and say, "I will arise and go to my Father.

    Return to dust - Psalm 90

    The following is my scribbled devotional notes from Psalm 90. Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses.

    HE is GOD before the mountains were formed, before the earth came into existence.” - This statement is from Moses who didn’t believe in a living God in his early years.

    1000 years to HIM is like a day and I am like a new grass of the morning, i spring up new in the morning and by evening i dry up and i am no more. God knows my sins and my secret sins are laid bare before HIM. The wrath of God is constantly present before HIM and there is no way I can justify myself before HIM - in the new testament the Lord Jesus teaches us about prayer of the tax collector, He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' Luke 18:13.

    Teach me to number my days Lord. That i may gain a heart of wisdom. This is the wisdom Paul speaks in Colossians 1:29. If i know that how short my life is on this earth - the way i behave will change.

    HIS unfailing love is always there - satisfy me in the morning with YOUR unfailing love. That i may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

    May YOUR splendor be shown to YOUR children, a prayer we can pray for God's people working for HIM.

    PRAYER - Asking God to show me how short my life is, and to beg God for wisdom. From that wisdom comes understanding of who God is.

    Proverbs 2 - treasure God's Word in my heart; make my ears attentive to HIS wisdom. God loves to give HIS wisdom to those who fear HIM - Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.

    Incline my heart to God's understanding.

    CRY for discernment, beg for understanding, if I seek her like i search some hidden treasures - i will find that this God ought to be feared, i will understand the knowledge of the true God.

    THAT HE IS HOLY.
    I deserve death.
    I don’t deserve to come before HIM.
    I don’t deserve to raise my voice before HIM.

    But the Lord loves the calling and cry of a righteous heart. HIS ears are attentive to their prayers and cries.

    SO HE pours out HIS wisdom and HIS understanding and HIS Knowledge to the chosen ones. - Proverbs 2:6

    HOW QUICKLY ?

    Doing a word study on the word QUICKLY. It appears approximately 74 times in the whole bible (NIV Version). It sounds demanding when man uses it. In the Book of Psalms, normally it is used by a man of God in his prayers.

    come quickly to help me...Psalm 22:19

    come quickly to rescue me... Psalm 31:2

    come quickly to answer me... Psalm 69:17

    come quickly to deliver me... Psalm 70:5

    come quickly to meet me... Psalm 79:8

    Then in Psalm 81:14, GOD uses this word " QUICKLY ",it sounds comforting. HE says, "If MY people would listen to ME, & would follow MY ways, how QUICKLY would I subdue their enemies and turn MY hand against their foes".

    Later in the New Testament, Jesus uses this word in the story (parable) of the disobedient son (Luke 15:11-31), who walks away from his father. In most of Jesus's story (parables), one character represents God. In this story, the Father represents God and when the father saw his disobedient son returning from a distance, he was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The father said to his servants, 'QUICK! Bring the best robe and put it on him.

    God loves to use the word QUICKLY. All HE expects from us is to repent, turn away from evil ways and call HIM with a clean & a pure heart. God will QUICKLY come & subdue all our enemies. The enemies could be fear, health problems, difficult circumstances, marital problems, relationship problems, financial problems, addictions etc.

    Crush my heart rebellious heart & make it cry for help Lord. Come QUICKLY.

    Chill out - Today is singing day

    God has a good sense of humor. There has been a change in leadership, Joshua is appointed as the new leader, people are discouraged, they have been wandering in the desert for nearly 40 years, they are scared, they don’t know - how they are going to win the battles. So with all serious issues going around, God gives Moses a song and Moses teaches his people a new song (Deuteronomy 32) .

    When i meet Moses in heaven i need to ask him how the singing sequence go during the exodus (Deuteronomy 31:30).

    How can a person keep his or her way pure?

    By living, seeking, hiding, studying, rejoicing, meditating, delighting - God's Word. Psalm 119:9-16.

    How can a person keep his or her way pure? By living according to God's word, he not only lives according to God's word; he seeks God's face with all his heart. He hides God's word in heart (his scripture meditation for the day might be 2 Corinthians 5:21 but when he encounters a trial or temptation, his immediate verse will be "Lord Save me"). He also studies God's word and rejoices when he finds hidden treasures.

    He meditates on the scriptures daily. My favorite prof Dr. Enns taught me how to use 3X5 cards for scripture meditation. On the top left corner, I write down the theme of the verse and on the right top corner, I write down the verse number, since I am poor in memorization and English is not my first language, I write down the verse in my version. For example:

    Colossians 3:12 - Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

    My version - on the left top side I write, "Who am i" on the right top side I write, "Colossian 3:12"

    The verse will just say - "God's chosen people, holy & dearly loved"

    Now during days of discouragement - I will pick up my 3X5 cards and will go through these verses.

    So not only does this person meditates and studies, God's word. He also delights in God's word. He comes with an anticipation that God who reigns over this whole world, is going to say something to HIS favorite child. God still speaks through HIS word. I have heard college students, moms, business people & non believers say, God speaks through the word. God's word is living and powerful.

    So dear heavenly Father, help me to live by the Book, help me to seek You daily like Moses, help me to rejoice like David and say to dying world, "Taste & see how good my Lord is". When I stray away from Your Word, please fix me.
